AWS Cloud Practitioner Study Guide

AWS Cloud is growing rapidly and has taken over the IT industry. You can set yourself up for success in your new cloud role and negotiate a higher salary if you pass this certification.

I passed this test a year back and I am excited to share how many hours it took and what did I do to learn AWS.

  • I started out by taking Stephane Maarek's course on Udemy for AWS Cloud Practitioner. Make sure to watch the entire course and attempt all the quizzes given in his course.

  • Practice on the 6 practice tests which are also available for purchase on Udemy by Stephane

  • Read AWS Whitepapers mentioned in the course. There are well written and can be easily understood.

  • Follow along carefully while watching the course videos. It really helps to know where everything is located in AWS.

  • Read up on AWS website regarding the updated Study Guide.

  • The services keep getting added and retired on AWS. Do not take too long of a break to prepare and take the exam.

  • Read up on reference books on O'Reilly on AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification.

  • If you have a PluralSight subscription there is certification path already set for this exam. You can search in the top bar and it takes you directly to the exam prep materials. There is exam simulation you can practice on as well via Cybervista.

  • Check with your employer or organization if they already have a online learning subscription you can take advantage of. If your employer does not have any, Stephane's course is just under $20 on Udemy.

Additional tips:

  • Take meaningful notes while watching lecture slides.

  • Highlight and create labels for topics which are frequently appearing on the exam.

  • Understand the difference between each service. There is a niche for each service which separates them from one another. For example, know the difference between CloudWatch, CloudEvents and CloudShield.

  • Have a solid understanding on foundational services, EC2, SQS, SNS etc.

  • Do not overthink. There are distractors on the exam.

  • Get a good night rest before the exam.
